On a scale of 1-10, how easy is it for you to come up with social media content ideas for your small business?
If your answer is 10, then you’ve already cracked the code, and I have nothing to teach you. You can skip this post; don’t worry, I won’t mind.
But if your answer is anything less than 10, then I bet you can still learn a thing or two from this post, so you should stick around for a bit.
In this post, you’ll be learning how to use your everyday moments as a small business owner to create great social media content your audience will love.
Why does this matter?
It matters because if you can draw on your mundane moments to create content, then it might make the whole content creation process easier and more enjoyable for you.
If you enjoy the process, you’re bound to make great content your audience loves. If your audience loves your content, they love your business and will support it.
Isn’t that your overall goal?
So, let’s get into it.
But real quick, before we proceed, I wrote a post about the lessons I learned from my 2 failed attempts at growing a business Instagram page. If you want to learn what not to do to grow on Instagram, you should read it here.
Now, here are 10 ways you can turn everyday moments into effective social media content.
1. Embracing Authenticity Through Daily Routines
If you didn’t know before, take this as your first notice: RELATABILITY IS IN!
If you’re trying to come up with social media content ideas for your business but you lack the time, money, or resources to produce what you think would be “high-quality content,” then you need to pay attention.
I’m here to tell you that you don’t need Hollywood-level content to attract your target audience; you just need relatable content.
And nothing is more relatable than regular mundane content such as “day in the life” content.
Showing your audience what a typical day looks like for you as a small business owner is a great way to grab their attention while building a connection of trust.
When I spend countless hours scrolling on TikTok, there’s a certain type of content I watch without fail. And it’s those videos of a bakery store owner showing how she gets through a day full of orders, or how she fulfils a certain order request or something like that.
I always watch them because for one, I find them very entertaining, but also it makes me admire all the work a business owner puts into making her business a success.
And if i’m ever in need of any bakery services you can bet that will be the business I go to first, cause i’ve seen how she delivers and I trust her to do the same with me.
This is the level of trust you can get from your audience, through simply sharing what a day looks like in your business. It doesn’t have to be overly produced or jam packed with activities, just a simple “this is what a typical Monday looks like as a X” will do.
So whether you’re meeting with clients, organizing inventory, or grabbing a coffee between tasks, your followers will enjoy seeing the heart behind your work.
Pro Tip: Document your day by taking short video clips or snapshots at different points, then compile them into a fun recap post.
Sharing aspects of your daily business operations can humanize your brand and foster a deeper connection with your audience.
2. Showcasing Behind-the-Scenes Activities
People are naturally curious and love to see what goes on behind the curtains. The same logic with the previous point on sharing “day-in-the-life” content applies here as well.
When people see the time and effort that goes into something, they are more likely to want and appreciate it.
What goes into making your products? How do you ship orders? What are your employees like? What new products or services are you working on?
These make great content that people eat up.
Some more examples you can use:
- A quick video of your workspace.
- A photo of your team preparing for a big day.
- A time-lapse of product packaging.
Showing behind-the-scenes content to your audience offers transparency that can help build customer loyalty and trust.
3. Highlighting Customer Interactions
Showing how customers interact with your business is great content to share because your best advocates are your customers. People are more likely to pursue your business when they see other positive and authentic interactions with it.
Whether it’s a simple conversation in the comments or a happy customer sharing a photo with your product, featuring these moments shows that you care about your customers and value their experiences.
Ideas for Content:
- Share user-generated content like a customer’s photo using your product or service.
- Post screenshots of positive reviews or engaging comments.
- Create a “Customer of the Week” feature to highlight loyal customers or great stories.
When you make your customers feel appreciated, you encourage even more people to interact with your business and share their own experiences.
4. Showing off your Team
Introducing your team to your followers is a great way to build a personal connection. People love knowing the faces behind a brand.
Next to your customers, your employees are great advocates and ambassadors for your business.
No one really believes a business owner when they say their product/service is good because, of course, they would say that. However, people are more likely to believe an employee when they boast about the business they work for. In fact, research shows that 76% of consumers are more likely to trust the content shared by a brand’s employees than the brand itself.
Plus, showing your employees and their daily experiences can add a personal human touch to your brand and boost engagement.
Content Ideas:
- Feature a “Meet the Team” post for each staff member.
- Celebrate work anniversaries or accomplishments.
- Share fun facts or a day-in-the-life video for different team members.
5. Capturing Spontaneous Moments
Not every piece of great content is planned. Sometimes, the best-performing content is the one that just happened randomly.
Don’t be afraid to show some spontaneity in your content; it’s a great way to show the real, unfiltered side of your business.
It doesn’t even have to be some elaborate thing; it can be as simple as a fun exchange between team members, a sudden burst of creativity, a birthday celebration in the office or even a quick team lunch.
By sharing these unplanned, organic moments, you give your audience a glimpse of the genuine culture behind your brand.
Going back to my first point about relatability, this type of content feels relatable and often gets higher engagement because it’s not overly curated.
So, the next time something spontaneous happens, grab your phone, snap a quick photo or video, and share it with your followers—people love seeing the real moments.
6. Using User-Generated Content
This point ties into what I mentioned previously about sharing customer interactions.
If you have a product-based business, then using UGC is a great way to get content; the benefits are amazing:
- You get to save time creating content cause your customers have already done this for you
- Other people get to see authentic and positive interactions and reviews of your products
- It helps build trust with your audience and also gives you credibility.
- It shows potential buyers real-world uses of your product.
UGC is really just that girl, in my opinion.
So, encourage your followers to tag your business or use specific hashtags so you can gather UGC effortlessly.
P.S. Make sure to ask permission before reposting, and always give credit to the original creator.
7. Celebrating Small Wins and Milestones
Your business has victories worth celebrating, no matter how small.
Did you get your first sale? First 1,000 followers? Is it your business anniversary? Are you launching a new product or service?
Celebrate it with a post.
Your audience wants to see you win; they want to share in your successes and celebrate with you. By showing these moments, you can make them feel like a part of your journey.
Showing your progress is a great opportunity to express your gratitude to your customers, and it also helps strengthen the community you’re trying to build online.
Post Ideas:
- Create a countdown for an upcoming milestone (e.g., “5 days until our big launch!”).
- Post a celebration video when you reach a goal.
- Run a special giveaway or promotion in honor of your milestone.
QUICK PSA: If, while reading this post, you realize you also need help creating a content plan and calendar that helps you be consistent, then you should check out this post. In it, I break down the process of creating a content calendar that works with your busy schedule and give you a free content calendar you can use to get started.
8. Engaging in Community Events
Did your business participate in a conference, local event, or webinar? Make content talking about it.
If you’re part of a local community and participate in any way, show this on your social media platforms. Not only can this help you collaborate with other small businesses, but it can also help you connect with your audience on a more personal level.
Ideas for Posts:
- Share highlights from a local festival or event.
- Post a shoutout to a neighboring business.
- Feature local charity events or partnerships you’re involved in.
Tagging other local businesses and participating in community events strengthens local ties and boosts engagement.
9. Sharing Industry Insights and Tips
As a business owner, you have a wealth of knowledge and unique expertise that your audience can benefit from.
Sharing tips, tutorials, or helpful advice related to your industry positions you as an expert and gives followers content they can use and share.
When you create shareable content, you establish your business as a go-to resource for others. This can increase brand engagement and reach.
Content Examples:
- Post a “How-to” video on using one of your products.
- Share business or lifestyle tips that align with your brand.
- Create a series of educational posts about common industry questions.
10. Documenting the Creative Process
Every business has unique processes that go into making products or providing services. You should tap into this for your content.
You have your go-to tools and resources you love or tips, tricks, and hacks that save you time. Sharing these processes with your audience can be educational and entertaining.
If your business involves creativity, documenting the process from concept to completion can be interesting to your audience.
You can give people a look at how things are made, prepared, or delivered.
Examples:
- Share how your products are crafted or assembled.
- Show the steps involved in preparing for an event or service.
- Walk through how you select materials or ingredients.
Sharing some parts of your business process can add depth to your product story and enhance customer appreciation for what you offer.
Turning everyday moments into engaging social media content is easier than you think. The key is to be authentic, consistent, and mindful of what resonates with your audience.
By sharing behind-the-scenes glimpses, personal stories, or celebrating milestones, you create a more personal connection with your followers, which leads to stronger brand loyalty and engagement.
Remember, as a small business owner, your audience isn’t just interested in your products or services—they’re interested in you.
So, don’t be afraid to share your journey, your team, and even your day-to-day challenges and triumphs.
